Our Story
Family Heritage Foundation was founded by Bennett and Idong Ekandem, who came to the United States of America as immigrants. Knowing the first-hand struggles of resettling in a new country, they founded the charity to ease the burdens of other immigrants and refugees. They began a free afterschool program to help refugee children overcome learning barriers in school. FHF also introduced programs to support the whole family. The organization has since expanded its youth and family support services to include American-born citizens who are at-risk of homelessness.
Since 2001, FHF has used borrowed space to provide free enrichment programs. These programs help meet the needs of our community. We serve youth and families in Clarkston and other parts of Georgia. For the last 20 years, we have served in seven different locations. While we are grateful to our various partners for giving us physical space, it is time to put down some roots.
Each year, we provide free afterschool care and tutorials to an average of 79 children in Clarkston. More than 116 families receive financial and other tangible support annually. Think about how many more families that could be impacted if we had a stable location. There would be no more service interruptions due to untimely moves.
